Hello, I’m Daisy!

Welcome to Dairy Free Daisy. Here I’ll be documenting my dairy free journey and lifestyle. This will include my experiences with intolerances and eczema, sharing dairy free foodie reviews, lots of my own recipes and through my travels, the best places to eat.

I hope to adapt and improve upon my cookery and baking skills throughout this journey. I’m not a professional but I do make a mean batch of brownies. The thing is, I’m now learning to swap out all the ingredients that make my eczema worse to something a little more eczema-friendly.

When I first started cutting out dairy it was quite hard, especially as my friends were all cheese fiends. There also weren’t as many dairy free alternatives on the market. Slowly but surely I’ve managed to get to a dairy free life and as the years have gone by there have been so many exciting free from brands entering the market.

I want Dairy Free Daisy to show you that being dairy free isn’t as daunting as it first seems. Quitting dairy isn’t scary, there are so many alternatives.

You may have figured out by now that I cut out dairy due to my eczema. I’ve had eczema throughout my life and it’s come and gone in various forms. Around 2008 it got really bad and I had thought that it could be related to eggs or dairy. Time went by and I cut out dairy on and off over the years. Towards the end of 2015 I had another really bad flare up on my hands, especially my palms. I decided it was time to take things more seriously. Alongside sore hands I’ve also suffered with very itchy and flakey skin just under my eyebrows (strange but true), above my top lip and on my legs.

Through the process of elimination I figured out that dairy is the main culprit. Whenever I’ve cut out dairy from my diet my skin has cleared up. I’ve then introduced dairy again and as you can imagine, my skin goes bad and it takes at least 4 weeks to get it back to normal.

Dairy is my main focus for this blog but I also have to cut down on wheat, eggs and refined sugar. I’m still in the process of getting used to this and I’ll be sure to document it all along the way. I’m on a mission to have clear eczema-free hands so I can wear my engagement ring.

You’ll find a wide variety of recipes on this blog. They will all be dairy free, many will be made without wheat and you’ll even find a bunch of vegan alternatives. I class myself as a flexitarian. I eat a lot of vegan food but do still have fish and meat from time to time.
